If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s how to do things in our home kitchens. We’ve been applying this not only to our weeknight bolognese, but also our weekend cocktail game. Most of you know this is an area in which I love to experiment - super fresh ingredients, shaken a certain number of times and served in your prettiest cocktail glasses. It’s also a thing I do to bring people together, at home or at a bar. I love the conversations that come from a few well crafted cocktails, or a pretty bottle of wine, or an interesting craft brewed beer. Well, this year, as things have been a roller coaster of dumpster fires and my extroversion needs are harder to meet, we’ve gotten a tad sloppy.
And we’re embracing it in full force.
Maybe you’ve been here?
You find yourself having to fly during a pandemic, attempting to offset that anxiety and all of the sudden you’ve got a collection of tiny bottles and you’re staring at the seat back television as it tells you just how much longer it will be until you land. Or the trouble shooting that occurs when forgetting a corkscrew on that weekend cabin trip you booked in hopes that it would bring you a little respite from the pandemic day to day, or maybe you’re just sitting around a backyard campfire with an empty case of cheap beer.
Wherever you are with all of this, these are just little reminders that it’s okay to be a little less than perfect. Loosen up, have a good time, even if it’s not that instagrammable. All we need this year is just to make it through. Things will get better. We’re certain of it. In the meantime, there’s humor in all of these scenes and a strong desire to keep your coffee tables free from drink rings.
